Main destination Jordan · About Escorted or Guided Tour
Ride through the deserts, roads and mountains of Jordan to experience ever-changing landscapes while changing the world on this fundraising trip Known as the ‘conscience of Intrepid’, Geoff Manchester has led the company’s purpose initiatives for decades. Now he wants to lead you on the cycling trip of a lifetime through the best that Jordan has to offer. Limited spots are available for this discounted trip, so travellers must commit to raising AU $2,000 for The Intrepid Foundation to secure their place. From the shores of the Dead Sea to the top of the ‘Rose City’ of Petra, Jordan is a country as rich in surreal landscapes as it is in archaeological fame. Take a ride through ancient history as you wander the perfectly preserved ruins of Jerash and experience the ridge of Mount Nebo, which promises views of Bethlehem and Jerusalem on a clear day. Between vibrant sands and prehistoric rock formations, it’s no surprise Wadi Rum evokes comparisons to Mars. The views may be extraterrestrial, but raising money for an important cause before you go will keep you grounded.

Petra

Petra

Petra is a historical and archaeological city in the Jordanian governorate of Ma'an that is famous for its rock cut architecture and water conduits system. Established sometime around the 6th century BC as the capital city of the Nabataeans, it is a symbol of Jordan as well as its most visited tourist attraction. It lies on the slope of Mount Hor in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of Arabah (Wadi Araba), the large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. Petra has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. The site remained unknown to the Western world until 1812, when it was introduced by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. It was described as "a rose-red city half as old as time" in a Newdigate Prize-winning sonnet by John William Burgon. UNESCO has described it as "one of the most precious cultural properties of man's cultural heritage." Petra was chosen by the BBC as one of "the 40 places you have to see before you die".
